Italian Trade Agency (ITA) is a government agency to promote overseas trade and is playing a major role in helping small and medium-sized Italian companies advance into overseas markets. ITA Seoul Office is actively supporting Italian companies to participate in KIEMSTA 2024 through the Italian government office. This is what ITA is doing and its future plans are for the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Korea and Italy, with Ferdinand Gueli, director of Seoul Office, ITA.
Need to 'strengthen cooperation' for agricultural development between the two countries
¡â ITA is an agency of the Italian government. It is responsible for facilitating and supporting trade transactions for Italian companies to pioneer overseas markets, and is active in more than 80 countries around the world. As a core market in Asia, Korea is conducting business cooperation in various industries, and the agricultural machinery sector is also an important part. ITA holds various promotion events such as B2B and B2C every year to strengthen cooperation between Korea and Italy in the agricultural machinery sector. In addition, new Italian technologies and new products are updated every six months to introduce high-tech technologies such as automation and autonomous driving, providing an opportunity for companies in both countries to cooperate.
Not only the global agricultural environment, but also the agricultural environment in Korea is changing rapidly. Population decline and lack of agricultural manpower are also big problems at hand. The agricultural machinery field can provide solutions to solve these problems. FederUnacoma has formed a business cooperation with the Korea Agricultural Machinery Industry Cooperative (KAMICO) to participate in the country's exhibition as a national pavilion. Eight Italian finished products and parts companies will participate in KIEMSTA. I met with Fabio Ricci, deputy director of FederUnacoma, who is in charge of the participation of the Italian national pavilion, and heard about the overseas cooperation of Italian agricultural machinery and what KIEMSTA needs to grow into an international exhibition.
Government-led 'Digital Transformation' Is Effective
¡â The aging of the agricultural population is a challenge for many advanced economies. Automation and robot technology are solutions that can alleviate labor shortages and increase agricultural efficiency. Education that manages these new technologies plays an important role, and policies to cultivate young farmers who are familiar with digital solutions should be led by the government. Over the past three years, the Italian government has implemented ‘Agriculture 4.0’, an incentive policy that can promote the digital transformation of agriculture and increase agricultural sustainability and productivity while protecting the environment, to save chemical fertilizers and water, and to disseminate new technologies such as robotics, advanced machinery, and sensors. This resulted in a productivity increase of €2.5 billion in 2023 compared to 2022, with 72% of Italian farms adopting at least one Agriculture 4.0 solution. Italy is strengthening technical cooperation with foreign companies based on these experiences and know-how.
In order for KIEMSTA to enhance its international characteristics, it must first implement specific communication plans and digital marketing strategies. The contents of the exhibition website in English are a kind of 'business card' that arouses interest in foreign visitors. Along with this, active participation in overseas exhibitions and inviting foreign buyers and journalists will be effective solutions for promoting the exhibition.
